How can data support the creation and predict the sustainability of a new Zero Carbon neighborhood comprised of 500 new units of housing, schools, retail, community services, parks, car sharing and parking? Working with R+L Architects, this award winning design received the Special Recognition for Breadth of Research Award for its advanced use of data in support of the design.

Data fueled the creation of not only a design strategy but also a UOS, Urban Operating System, Dallas OS1.0. The operating system would monitor data to manage a holistic environmental, building, energy and transportation system. The greater purpose of this OS is to allow residents and citizen’s awareness and access to their full participation in better managing their neighborhood. Energy usage, environmental performance, open space usage, air quality and general quality of life are readily influenced and managed by informed residents creating a Smarter Dallas.
